Massage Therapy

St. Francis provides individualized massage therapy sessions for men and women of all ages to help reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure and provide general relaxation. Increased circulation, range of motion, joint flexibility and sore-muscle relief are additional benefits of massage therapy.

The nationally certified massage therapists at St. Francis are trained to perform a variety of massage techniques, including, but not limited to:

Swedish Massage
One of the most commonly known techniques is Swedish massage. Therapists use a combination of five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, to manipulate the body’s soft tissues. Benefits of Swedish massage may include general relaxation, relief from muscular tension and pain, and improved circulation.

Deep-tissue Massage
This type of massage uses greater pressure and works on deeper muscle layers than Swedish massage. Deep-tissue massage is used to relieve chronic patterns of muscular tension by using slow strokes, direct pressure and friction.

Hot Stone Massage
In hot stone massage, round, smooth basalt stones are heated to a luxurious temperature, oiled and used in the palms of the hands to massage the body. This is a deeply soothing and relaxing form of bodywork, which can increase detoxification, decrease stress and fatigue and relieve longstanding muscle tension. Requires a 90-minute appointment.

Reflexology/Acupressure
Based on the principle that energy flows through the body along specific paths, reflexology/acupressure relieves tension and congestion along these specific paths. Energy moves freely along these paths when a person is healthy but can be blocked when tension or congestion is present. This blockage could cause pain in organs located along those paths.

Chair Massage
This massage takes advantage of techniques that provide fully clothed massage to clients who are seated in specially designed chairs. Therapists use a combination of Swedish and deep-tissue massage, commonly working the head, neck, shoulders and back.

Pfrimmer Therapy
Your therapist will work across your muscles, manipulating deep tissues and stimulating circulation. Pfrimmer therapy can aid in regenerating lymphatic flow to promote detoxification and oxygenation of stagnant tissue. Pfrimmer therapy has been effective in alleviating sports injuries, occupational stresses, arthritis, backaches, neck tension and chronic fatigue syndrome. Requires a 90-minute appointment.

Prenatal Massage
Pregnancy is a time of physical and emotional change. Consistent massage therapy during this time can relieve physical symptoms, reduce stress and help promote a positive mental attitude.
