If your newborn needs specialized care, you can be assured he or she will receive the most advanced treatment possible at St. Francis. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Indianapolis campus serves both the Indianapolis and Mooresville campuses. It offers sophisticated neonatal technology and highly skilled neonatologists and nurses who have been trained to care for high-risk newborns.
Our Level III NICU provides state-of-the-art care for a variety of newborn conditions, including prematurity, respiratory distress, temperature instability and surgical conditions.
The staff of the St. Francis NICU recognizes how important it is for parents to spend time with their infants, so we strongly encourage visitation. Parents and grandparents are welcome in NICU any time. You may arrange visits for siblings and others through your infant's nurse.
The St. Francis NICU also offers a unique service to increase parental confidence and ease the transition from the hospital to home. Near the end of the infant's hospital stay, parents and their infant may “room-in” together. Parents occupy a room adjacent to the NICU to learn to confidently care for their baby. During this time, the baby will stay in this room around the clock, and parents will have full nursing support.
We know that having your baby admitted to the NICU is a stressful and, in many cases, an unexpected event. We encourage you to ask questions about your baby’s care. No question is too small or unimportant, so please ask about anything that concerns you.
