Hip Hop Clinic

Are you concerned about your child's weight? Do you worry that he or she may not be getting enough exercise? Do you want to help your child begin a weight loss program but don't know where to start? The Hip Hop Clinic at St. Francis may be the answer.

Since 2002 this program has strived to meet the needs of overweight children and teens in central Indiana.

The Hip Hop clinic addresses the issues of children and teens who are overweight or obese. Every child is treated by a team of a pediatric endocrinologist, a nurse, a psychologist, a registered dietician and an exercise physiologist. Each child is given a complete physical and is screened for complications of obesity, such as high blood pressure and type II diabetes. For children ages 5 to 18. One-year commitment.

At the first four visits, the children meet individually with the team members to set goals and discuss the difficulties of weight loss. After the fourth visit, the children move to group meetings with other children who are the same age. Discussion in group meetings focuses on dealing with all aspects of childhood obesity, from proper diet and exercise to how to deal with bullying and improving self esteem.
