Apheresis Services
|
Description: Provides support for the bone marrow transplant program, as well as outpatient photopheresis treatment.
Summary: Extracorporeal Photopheresis (ECP) is a series of outpatient procedures designed to treat patients with Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma (CTCL) and other T-cell related blood disorders. During each session, a patient’s blood is circulated through a machine that mixes a therapeutic drug and applies UV light before returning the blood to the body. Treatment sessions are customized for each patient but typically consist of four sessions per month over a six-month period. Each treatment session lasts three to four hours.
If your physician recommends ECP therapy, please note:
- Do not eat fatty foods that morning of treatment.
- Your skin and eyes will be photosensitive to light after treatment. Bring sunglasses to your appointment.
- Other than the initial needlestick, this is not a painful procedure.
Other services provided with physician referral:
- therapeutic apheresis
- hematopoietic progenitor cell collection
