Preconception Care for Women with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

Designed for: Women with diabetes who are planning to become pregnant
Description: Being healthy is a great way to start every pregnancy. This class will provide you with the information and tools you need to minimize the effects of diabetes on you and your baby during pregnancy. This class is offered on an individual basis to any woman with diabetes who wants to become pregnant. This class stresses the importance of good blood sugar control prior to becoming pregnant in order to have a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Topics include:
- Switching from oral diabetes medications to insulin if needed
- Meal planning
- Monitoring and setting blood sugar goals
- Planning physical activity
- Prevention and treatment of hypoglycemia
Location: All classes and individual instruction are offered either at the St. Francis Diabetes & Endocrinology Center near St. Francis Hospital—Indianapolis or in the St. Francis Education Center.
Cost: May be covered by your insurance company. A physician’s referral may be required.
