Nurse Navigators

The diagnosis of cancer can be overwhelming for you and your family. But through it all, you will never be alone.

Many patients and families of the St. Francis Cancer Center are paired with a nurse navigator. Our nurse navigator program provides dedicated nurses who will be with you every step of the way.

Nurse navigators are currently available for:

What is a nurse navigator?
A nurse navigator is a single point of contact for cancer patients and their families. The nurse navigator is an educator, advocate and a friend. The navigator is a specially trained professional who assists in all aspects of the patient’s care experience. When clinical issues arise, a navigator can refer patients to the appropriate physician office or other health care resource.

What does a nurse navigator do?
Your St. Francis nurse navigator will:
    • Serve as a liaison between you, your physicians, support staff and the resources of the Colorectal Cancer Center.
    • Assess your individual and family’s needs and will provide you with appropriate resources and information to better inform you of what to expect throughout your treatment.
    • Ensure that you receive the highest level of coordinated care possible.
    • Ensure coordination and scheduling of tests, treatment and follow-up with your personal needs in mind.
    • Monitor your follow-up, provide ongoing support and streamline the treatment process.
    • Relieve some of the burden you might face as you move through the complex treatment system.
